ANALYSIS OF CONVERSATIONAL IMPLICATURE OF TEACHER AND STUDENTS IN LEARNING ENGLISH OF THE TWELFTH- GRADE STUDENTS AT SMK BINTANG LANGKAT

Abstract

The research aims to find out the most used of conversational implicature form by teacher and
students in learning English at SMK Bintang Langkat, where there are two categories
conversational implicature based on Grice’s theory namely generalized conversational implicature
and particularized conversational implicature. The subject of this research was the English teacher
and the twelfth-grade students at SMK Bintang Langkat. This research was qualitative research
and used documentation and interviews as collecting the data. The researcher found the most used
of conversational implicature form by teacher and students in learning English was generalized
conversational implicature with the percentage of frequency of 100%. The reasons of the English
teacher used generalized conversational implicature: were explained the material and the students
understood the material easily; and the reasons of the students used generalized conversational
implicature were explained the material or assignment to the classmates.
