AN ANALYSIS OF TRANSLATION ERRORS IN ENGLISH-INDONESIAN TRANSLATION PRACTICES FOR ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS USING THE GOOGLE TRANSLATE APPLICATION AT SMA SWASTA YPP SAWIT SEBERANG

Abstract

This research aims to find out how many students make mistakes when translatingan English text into Indonesian using the Google Translate application throughexplanation text and to find out the internal causes of difficulty in translating foreleventh grade students. The subject of this research is class XI IPA 4 SMAS YPPSawit Seberang. The method used in this research is a qualitative. Researchers useddata collection techniques such as text translation, interviews, and documentation.To find out the results of student errors when translating the Explanation text, theresearcher used formula The sum of each data/Sum of all data x 100. Then theresults were 54% Misunderstanding of Original Text, 18% Mistranslation intoTarget Language, 6% Omission error, 6% Addition error, and 16% Punctuation.While the result of the interview stated that most of them still had difficulty intranslate English into Indonesian using the Google Translate application. Thereason was because of differences in language structure, lack of knowledge, lack ofvocabulary, lazy to learn and there were also those who think that English isdifficult. So based on the results of the explanation above, students of class XI IPA4 SMAS YPP Sawit Seberang still experience many errors in translate English textsinto Indonesian using the Google Translate application, due to lack of practice intranslating and lack of learning.
